Come join the 1st Annual GAY DADS MEGA SUMMER BBQ!!

Date:
Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Time:
11:00am to 4:00pm

Location:
West Bluff Picnic Area, Crissy Field, San Francisco

Group Photo:
2:00pm at the Amphitheater

Bring your clan and let's see what a whole load of SFBA gay dads and their kids looks like! We will have one big mega BBQ pot-luck set up with activities for the kids of all ages. Our Family Coalition & COLAGE will also be on hand with some of their own activities for the kids too! Our aim is to give the dads as much of a break as well! ;-)

All you need to bring:

Food -
For the BBQ (incl. buns) and a side dish to share (burger accoutrement, salad, dips, fruit, beans, veg, chips, cookies, desert etc) - we'll have a couple of folks behind the BBQ grilling all day, so we plan on having one "mega potluck" - we'll grill all day and lay out the sides. Then we all share. Easy. Special requests a-ok too.

Drinks -
Bring whatever works for you in your cooler.

Comfort -
Blankets, chairs, wind-breakers, etc to make a comfy spot on the picnic area lawn. There is no shade so bring a parasol/umbrella. Bring any fun outdoor games you may have for the kids...

Beach -
We'll be right next to the beach - and if it's a hot day we'll have fun frolicking at the water's edge.... so bring a change of clothes for your kids and a bucket and spade! Bring bathing costumes & towels!

Misc -
Don't forget the sunscreen, cameras, and your PRIDE flags and banners.

Services -
There are restrooms right next to the Warming Hut cafe adjacent to the picnic area.

Needs -
We need a large square/rectangle marquee to stand over and shade the pot-luck food table. Please email me if you have one you can bring.

Specific Location -
We will be nabbing the BBQ/picnic area known as "West Bluff in Crissy Field". This is located at the western end of Crissy Field with plenty of parking right next to the picnic area, which is just east of the Warming Hut cafe and "amphitheater". Drive as far west as you can on Old Mason Street and park just after the roundabout - we will have some balloons/flags to mark our spot. A map is posted on CASTRO DADS group page on Facebook.

Donations -
We will have a basket out for donations from each family that is able to donate ($5-$20) to help cover some of the shared costs - entertainer/clown for the kids, supplies for kids games, charcoal for bbq's, condiments, paper plates, cups, napkins, utensils, paper table clothes etc etc..

This event is supported by -
CASTRO DADS, Meet Up SF Gay Dads, East Bay Gay Dads, Bay Area Gay Dads, Gay Future Dads, Out n About Gay Dads of Sacramento, LGBT Parents are Social Too!, Gay Dads of San Jose, Gay Dads on The Peninsula, Rainbow Family Adventures, Our Family Coalition, COLAGE.

Keeping things up north this week. Arlington Park is off of Arlington (duh). Parking is free and is available alongside the road.

For those of you coming from Oakland, taking I-580 and going on I-80 after the split is your best bet. You would want to take  exit 15 for Potrero Ave.

Here is the address:

1120 Arlington
El Cerrito, CA 94530

Here is a map.

Hi there Dads!

I am a former member of East Bay Dads.  My son is now almost 8, in second grade, and we don't tend to go to parks for playdates any more.  I wanted to let all of you know about a preschool my wife and I are starting in the Oakland/Piedmont area,  We are hosting some Informational Meetings about the school this coming Wednesday and Sunday,  Details are below.

Take care,

Tim Silk

happytogeher Preschool

Coming in January 2010...

An intimate, part day program for 3-5 year olds grounded in a play-based, constructivist philosophy. We will develop children's emotional literacy by emphasizing principles of self-expression, connection and well-being. The school will be inspired by Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication and infused with the latest scientific research on nurturing happiness and compassion among children. Children's world view will be expanded by immersing ourselves in Jewish cultural traditions and Spanish language activities.

Informational Meetings:

Wed, Oct 14, 11-noon

Sun, Oct 18, 4-5pm

Location: 1300 Grand Ave, Piedmont, CA 94610

We are extremely lucky this week as esteemed author Jeremy Adam Smith will be joining us for our little playgroup.  He recently wrote The Daddy Shift, which charts the rise of us stay at home dads.  I read the book and you should too: go buy it!  He has done some cool stuff and we are lucky to have him.  Wanna check out more about him?  Look at his website. I have heard him speak on a radio show and he can give one hell of a talk.  We'll have to see if he can do so while drinking beer!

We are going to the Berkeley Aquatic Park. There are a few big play structures, swings, lots of grass for playing on, and a path for the big kids to ride bikes on. (Kinda similar to Orinda park, but more fog and hippies.) Aquatic Park is just south of University Avenue, between Highway 80 and San Pablo. The easiest approach is to take 6th Street and turn down Bancroft (heading west, toward the water), crossing the train tracks, then turn left on the road that just parallels the water.

Here is a map.  Let's have a great turnout!
